Presenting Karolina Araya, the magician of the brush, in your purse and, in your walls!
Hi guys, I hope you all having a great spring solstice, better weather is coming, and we all are getting ready to finally, get out of those heavy, sweaty coats and get that light nylon, full mobility nylon raincoats. But this might happen in the north, the US or Europe, but not up in the tropics, not up in here, Costa Rica, the always green and happy land of the central American stripe.
Today, I want to talk to you about a special place in the Cartago province; but why do I say it is a special place? Well, there are several reasons for that. Its name is Turrialba, and it located about 40 kms north-east from Cartago downtown, through valleys and hills, the serpent like road, turns around and around for about one hour, until you reach the plains, and that's where the special things start to show.
That plant, with thick, segmented purple stems, with elongated leaves alongside of the road, that's sugar cane, yeah, we always make a quick stop to "steal" a little piece of cane stem, peel it off and bit-suck on it, yeah, is kinda wired, but that's the proper technique; bite first, extract the juice and then...well you know! Every costa rican has done it, with several cuts in exchange, those leaves are sharpened like a knife! Following our path, we quickly get to Turrialba downtown, not too different from other rural areas but, this town gives the name of Costa Rica's most popular cheese; and, casually, we found Karolina Araya, the main character of this story, she was buying Turrialba cheese, btw!
Karolina was born and raised here in Turrialba, she always has been an art enthusiastic and as such, always pursuing knowledge through arts workshops, painting classes and courses and most important, mentored by some of the most recognized wall art painters in Costa Rica, such as Maestro Juan Castillo, who, by the way, was just invited to the grand opening of a prestigious art gallery in Turrialba. That's how Karolina, with a combination of talent, passion for nature and inspired by the surroundings of her dear Turrialba, started to paint landscapes in tiny ceramic plates, check it out in the next picture gallery:
Karolina also launched a collection of accessories for women, and those include hand bags, purses, beach bags (referring to a large bag where you can put all you need for your sunny, sandy day), hip packs, hats, scarfs and some more items.
While busy making her collection, inspired in the Monstera plant leaves, she started on incursion in mural painting, becoming so good at it, that Karolina decided to start painting murals instead, leaving speechless to all who comes across these marvelous images of nature. Check it out:
Amazing work, such realistic trace, and, as I mentioned above, all these images are Karolina's own inspiration; she was born in nature, showing all that beauty through these captivating paintings makes her one of Turrialba's favorites painters. Karolina will continue painting all over Turrialba, yes, correct, with the new project hosted by the City Hall, all electric poles in downtown will be decorated with images typical from the county, animals and the artists own inspiration. Paintings in plates and walls
So, whenever you want to visit Turrialba, don't forget to bite-suck that sugar cane steam and, look for Karolina's paintings!
Thanks for tuning in, until next time!
